Non-Profits Approved for Federal Funds
The Interim Finance Committee approved a significant number of work programs and projects put forward by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and state agencies aimed at revitalizing the State’s economy and helping Nevada continue its economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The first non-profit organizations to receive funding have been approved. Additional state programs have received funding to build upon existing successful programs as well, including a first-in-the-nation program Transforming Opportunities for Toddlers and Students (TOTS) grant program, which launched in October 2021. Applicants were urged to develop proposals that will help Nevada’s most vulnerable communities. Funds are not eligible to be used to support operations or infrastructure needs for non-profits but are aimed at helping increase the services the non-profit provides to the community. Priority will be given to projects that provide access to the resources necessary to relieve hardships experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Projects that meet the following criteria were encouraged:
• Invest in schools that prepare all children for success
• Solidify a healthy state for all Nevadans
• Provide good jobs for a diverse, vibrant and sustainable workforce
• Support families with access to quality and affordable childcare
• Strengthen secure housing for all who call Nevada home
This Community Recovery Grant program, funded by American Rescue Plan dollars, is aimed at utilizing existing non-profits in the State to provide direct and immediate community services. The application period for this program has ended and all allocated funds have been awarded.
